The Hawkeye State
Seventy five years after Iowa was entered into the Union, the state
Legislature adopted a flag design submitted by Mrs. Gebhardt of Knoxville. Fly this
historical flag at your facility to show your loyalty to Iowa and the United States. The
American Eagle carries a ribbon with the state motto, "Our Liberties We Prize and
Our Rights We Will Maintain."
Reminiscent of the French National Flag, the Iowa flag pays respect to
their French ties prior to the Louisiana Purchase - the blue stripe representing loyalty,
justice, and truth; the white stripe symbolizing purity; and the red stripe standing for courage.
