The Great Lakes State
As a frontier state, the Michigan flag expresses a readiness to defend,
but also a desire for peace. Patriotism is shown through the national motto which
translates to, "From Many, One," honoring the formation of the Union from many states.
Stand proud to be an inhabitant of Michigan and wave this flag proudly as an American
							ready to defend our principles.
The state seal centered on a blue background also represents the state's
wildlife, the 13 original colonies, and the U.S. as the ultimate authority over the state of
Michigan. Originally adopted in 1865, the current flag was modified for the last time on August 1, 1911.
